Toledo (3-3, 2-0) is coming off a lopsided defeat at the hands of #3 Boise State. The Rockets were not able to stop the Bronco’s offense. A few Rockets were injured in the game, but it appears that everyone is coming back for the Kent State game with the exception of the talented David Fluellen. Fluellen sprained his knee and will miss 3-4 weeks.
Kent State (2-3, 1-1) is coming off a 28-17 win over MAC rival Akron. Kent is ranked #1 in the nation against the run, but that number is supported by holding FCS opponent Murray State to -65 yards on the ground. I expect the Rockets to have more success against this Kent defense both through the air and on the ground.
The Rockets hold a series edge against the Golden Flashes, 19-16 with a commanding 14-3 record at home. In the last matchup in 2006, Kent defeated the Rockets 40-14. In this game, look for the Rockets to get near the century mark on the ground, even with the absence of Fluellen. Hopefully Dantin will not feel the effects of his concussion and can lead this Rocket offense to multiple scores. This is a pivotal game in the season, as the Rockets need to get back on a winning streak. They need to put the Boise game behind them and win the MAC.
Toledo – 28
Kent – 13
