Former Rockets Barry Church (Pittsburgh, PA) and Stephen Williams (Houston, TX) have been invited to the annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis (Feb. 24-March 2). The Combine is an important evaluation tool used by NFL teams to determine which college players they will select in the annual draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York (April 22-24).
This is a huge step toward getting noticed by the coaches, scouts and executives from all 32 NFL teams. A good showing here can really solidify a player in the minds of a program if they were on the bubble, or conversely, really hurt the perception of a player if they perform poorly.
We wish the best of luck to Church and Williams – it’s great to see more Rockets heading to the NFL to represent us at the next level.

On the Bubble and Church do not belong in the same thought. Church would have to get out there and have the worst day of his life in order to not get drafted. He goes second, maybe third round.
We agree – the “on the bubble” comment was obviously not directed toward him
Church will be playing on Sunday with out a doubt. I think it would help his chances if he was a bit taller though.
Williams had a great career at UT. I just worry about his speed, but NFL like big body receivers, so he may have a chance as well.
I can see both these players at the next level, but strong showings at the combine will help solidify their standings. I think Church has the edge over Williams (not slighting Stephen at all) so he will need to really show that he is a strong/physical receiver who can go up for a ball and come down with it. If he can prove that, I think the speed-issue will take a back seat.
