The University of Toledo has extended its athletic director’s contract and made him a vice president.

Mike O’Brien, who has been UT’s athletic director since Jan. 22, 2002, will now be vice president and director of athletics.

O’Brien’s contract extension runs through July 31, 2014, and his annual salary will remain at $183,855.

“The landscape of Rocket athletics has changed significantly for the better under Mike O’Brien’s leadership,” UT President Dr. Lloyd Jacobs said in a statement. “As the architect of numerous positive and transformational efforts, we are thrilled that he will be with us for many years to come.”

Toledo has enjoyed a fair deal of succes on O’Brien’s watch, with the Rockets winning of sharing MAC titles in football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, and women’s soccer.
