This was a frustrating game for Toledo. QB Julian got the start but was quickly injured. Woodside came in for a few snaps but wasn’t able to stay in the game so the ball was put in the hands of Dwight Macon. Straight from UTRockets.com:

Down to their fourth-string quarterback, the Toledo Rockets fought valiantly but ultimately succumbed to Northern Illinois, 27-24, in a critical MAC West Division game in DeKalb Tuesday night.

Senior Dwight Macon, a wide receiver who began his career as a quarterback, came off the bench to complete 8-of-11 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown, and nearly led the Rockets to their first victory over Northern Illinois since 2009. Macon also rushed for 97 yards and two TD’s.

We were pleasantly surprised by the play of Macon. He did everything he could to keep us competitive in the game and put us in a good position to be successful. The biggest question heading into the BGSU matchup will be whether Woodside is ready to play, or whether Julian/Macon gets the nod for the game. All things being equal, we’d rather see Macon (with some practice reqs at QB this week) under center on 11/19.
