At this point, we’re hearing that Aaron Opelt is a probable start for Saturday night against NIU. He suffered a shoulder injury in the WMU on Saturday and had an MRI on Sunday.

Previous to the 2 PM press conference today, Coach Beckman, speaking to the Dowtown Coaches lunch said that Opelt was “probable” for Saturday. Initial reports out of the press conference say that Opelt’s injury is a bruise, not break or tear.

UPDATE: Straight from the Toledo Blade:

UT senior quarterback Aaron Opelt, who suffered a right (throwing) shoulder injury in the second quarter against Western Michigan on Saturday, will not miss significant time after an MRI exam Sunday revealed no structural damage to his arm.

Opelt is “day-to-day” with a bruised right shoulder, and Beckman said he is “probable” to play against Northern Illinois this weekend.

So it’s possible that Opelt will be back slinging the pigskin by the time the Huskies get to the Glass Bowl.
