The Toledo Rockets (2-2) (1-0 MAC) are coming off a nice 38-17 win against Central Michigan. The Rockets defense forced 4 turnovers by the Chippewas. Owens did not start the game, but came in on the second offensive possession for the Rockets, completing 13 of 17 for 139 yards and a touchdown. In cased you missed the touchdown catch by Russell, it’s a must see. Fluellen racked up 197 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Ball State Cardinals (3-1) (1-0 MAC) are coming off a 51-20 win against Eastern Michigan. Lead by senior QB Wenning, the Cardinals had no struggles in this contest. Wenning completed 17 of 28 for 317 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Edwards had 15 carries for 81 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ball State has the highest scoring offense in the MAC at 42.3 points per game.
The Cardinals beat the Rockets in the Glass Bowl last year, 34-27, effectively pushing the Rockets to a tie (but losing the tie breaker to the Cardinals) for second place in the MAC West. In order to win on Saturday, the Rocket defense needs to play at the level they were last week against CMU and probably even a little more stingy. The Cardinals have not faced a defense yet this year that is ranked below 70 in the scoring defense category (Rockets are ranked 63). The Cardinals 3 wins were against teams that are currently .500 or worse. They will certainly be tested in this contest as the Rockets look for redemption. Wennington to Snead looks like the go to option for the Cardinals and the Rocket defense must be up to the challenge to stop the duo. Force Ball State to look for other play makers and use it’s running game. This one will probably be a tight one in Muncie.
