The Toledo Rockets (8-2, 5-1 MAC) are coming off a disappointing home loss to Ball State, 34-27. Owens completed 14 of 27 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown. Fluellen carried the ball 34 times for 200 yards. The Rockets defense forced 3 interceptions, but were unable to stop the Cardinals when it counted the most.
The NIU Huskies (9-1, 6-0 MAC) are coming off a 63 point shutout win over new MAC conference opponent UMass. QB Lynch completed 15 of 19 passes for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns while rushing the ball 15 times for 157 yards and another touchdown. The Huskies outgained the Minutemen 610 to 267 in total yards.
This will be the biggest test of the season for the Rockets. The Huskies are ranked 10th nationally in rushing yards per game at 250.9 and 9th nationally in points per game with 40.6. The winner of this game should advance to the MAC Championship game to represent the West division. The Huskies are currently anywhere from a 10 to 11 point favorite in this game. Unless the Rockets defense can stop Lynch from running the ball and force him to complete passes, it could very well be a long night. The Huskies defeated the Rockets 65-30 in 2010 and 63-60 in 2011. This will be the 40th meeting between the two schools, with Toledo holding a 29-10 edge. It’s time to get that 30th win.
